turmeric peel dyes
The yellow dye gained from locally sourced cold pressed juice processing turmeric by-products of thesis partner bJuice were applied onto four different types of textiles. Starting with an artisanal pineapple leaf textile (PALF) from thesis partner TESOROS to represent the purity of a textile's intake capacity as there were no chemicals involved in the making of PALF; then opting for GOTS certified untreated and undyed gauze cotton and raw satin to GOTS certified white hydrogen-peroxide bleached pima cotton. Various mordants were selected based on energy and water saving capabilities, lightfast, reusability and non toxic environmental aspects.
